Joe Upcavage, Co-Director
Joe has spent the past five years working in the field of welding and metal fabrication, automotive repair and on construction based projects. He understands the technology and importance of green energy and is able to use creative design to create sustainable living for our volunteers and the community. He is well versed in the concepts of agriculture and has spent several years applying his knowledge to gardening for him and his family. Joe volunteered with All Hands Disaster Relief in 2011 where he led teams of relief volunteers into disaster zones to clear debris and demolish affected houses from the Super Tornado Outbreak in St. Louis and Birmingham; and the flood in Minot, ND. Joe is also co-founder of Better Than Safe, an organization dedicated to throwing benefits and events as a tool to spread awareness and raise funds for selected humanitarian causes. Email Joe.

Brittani Sponaugle, Co-Director
Brittani grew up in Fairfax, VA and later attended Virginia Commonwealth University where she got a B.A. in International Social Justice. Throughout college she studied West African history and culture and in 2007 had her first opportunity to travel to Ghana with the VCU Social Work Department to work with the Ghanaian NGO, Sovereign Global Mission (SGM). In 2011 Brittani returned to Ghana to volunteer with SGM and began brainstorming with locals about how to eradicate poverty in their communities. Since 2007, she has remained active in fundraising efforts and spreading awareness for the plight of impoverished Ghanaians. Intermittently Brittani has volunteered with the Red Cross, Refugee and Immigration Services, All Hands Disaster Relief and various Ghanaian organizations. She is an EMT and certified Search and Rescue Field Member. She is also a member of the Charlottesville, VA Sister City Commission with Winneba, Ghana. Email Brittani.
